Short links for QR codes

Why short addresses make better QR codes and how to keep printed codes flexible.

Shorter means simpler

The longer an address, the more dots a QR code needs. A short link gives a coarser code that scans reliably even when printed small, from a distance or in poor light.

Change the target without reprinting

Printed QR codes cannot be changed. If the code points to a ci8.de short link, you simply change the target with the edit link. Flyers, posters and packaging stay valid.

Printing tips

Leave a blank margin around the code, print it dark on a light background and no smaller than about 2 × 2 cm. Test the code with several smartphones before printing.

Add the address as text

Write the short link legibly below the code, for example ci8.de/k7m3xa. That way you also reach people who cannot or do not want to scan.

How to create the code

Shorten your link on ci8.de. A matching QR code appears right below the short link, ready to download as PNG or SVG. SVG stays sharp at any size and works best for print. Keep the edit link safe so you can adjust the target later.
